If you feel like conversing in German about books, films, memories, health, travels or whatever else you might think of and are interested in good company just come along! We look forward to meeting you!

German Book Club

Come along to one of the book clubs offered by the Australian-German Welfare Society

  • Meet interesting people with a wide range of backgrounds and read books you may otherwise not have read
  • Gain a deeper understanding through discussion with the added benefit of speaking German
  • Sometimes it’s fun just to have a chat in a relaxed environment

Films, Coffee and Cake

On the first Thursday of each month AGWS show a German movie and serve coffee and cake at our office in South Melbourne.

Tosca- Opera Gala Evening: CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Our Opera Gala Evening has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus.
In response to the advise of Government health officials we have reluctantly had to postpone the event.
A big thank you to all those people who pre-purchased tickets, we appreciate the support.

Hosted by us, this Gala evening will entail a lovely night of sophistication and beauty.
Giacomo Puccini’s glorious Tosca will be performed by
Co-Opera Australia at the Athenaeum Club in Melbourne,
one of Melbourne’s finest clubs.

Pre-dinner drinks in the William Clark Room, Dinner in the Main Dining Room, followed by the Opera in the Drawing Room.

The new touring production, directed by Brock Roberts, will feature seven singers accompanied onstage by Josh van Konkelenberg at the organ, bringing the orchestral colors of the original to life as part of the ecclesiastic set.

Book Market: CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

All future book markets are postponed until further notice.
In response to the current COVID-19 pandemic we have chosen to take all the precautionary measures possible to keep our members and followers safe.
It is unfortunate that we have had to cancel our monthly book market but is in accrodance to the advise of Government health officials.
We appreciate all the ongoing support that we are recieving in this time and always.

Every second Thursday of the month we will hold a German Book Market at our office.
We have a large selection of second hand books; novels, thrillers, reference books, children books, and more.

All books are $2, $3 or $5
Proceeds will be used to support the German community.
